    Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment or foil and lightly grease.

    In a medium saucepan, add chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Melt over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth.

    Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and salt. Fold in chopped nuts, if using.

    Spread fudge into prepared pan and smooth the top.
